New Tales from the Borderlands is only a few months away, here?s our first look

New Tales from the Borderlands was announced today at the Gamescom Opening Night Live presentation, and it has a date ? a soonish date, at that. Pre-orders are up today, and it's coming to PC (Epic Games Store), PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X on October 21, 2022.

Gearbox is calling New Tales from the Borderlands a "standalone adventure." This new tale will deal with a "planetary invasion, a vault monster, and cold-hearted capitalists," complete with the classic choose your own adventure conceit. It'll also be a personal story of three people. Here's the setup, which has garnered an M rating from the ESRB:

"Within the perpetually war-torn metropolis of Promethea, players will decide the fates of three underdogs out to make mayhem their business, with altruistic scientist Anu, her ambitious 'streetwise' brother Octavio, and the fierce, frogurt-flinging Fran."

Pre-orders will come with cosmetics for the core trio, 10,000 in-game currency (big question mark here), and an in-game FL4K collectible: that's $40 for the standard edition. For $50, you can get the deluxe edition (which is available in physical form) and grants you Tales from the Borderlands on top of the new entry.
It's weird seeing all these Telltale games come back, but the hope is that if they're split between multiple studios they'll fare better. At the end, Telltale was putting out a lot of stuff, and not all of it was up to par.
