Hello. I gathered you all here to tell you that water is wet. In other ? perhaps equally obvious ? news, Palworld continues to attract more players than some countries have citizens. As of this week, more than 25 million people have played Pocketpair's monster-catching survival game.

That's according to developer Pocketpair, who posted about the milestone achievement on Twitter (https://twitter.com/Palworld_EN/status/1760682105171062876)/X recently. A simple breakdown of the figures suggests that 15 million of these players are from Steam, while the remaining 10 million are Xbox users. While folks on Steam have to buy a copy to join in, Palworld's Xbox figures include some combination of players hopping in via Game Pass or buying the game through the Xbox storefront.

To put that into some perspective, Bethesda (https://bethesda.net/en/game/starfield/article/37j5d4CbPfYlZqJKcVtGcY/starfield-end-of-the-year-update-2023?linkId=256348629) boasted that 13 million players took to the stars in Starfield as of December 2023. No doubt this number has increased since then, but seeing the likes of Palworld achieve 12 million more than this in just a month's timing is pretty astonishing when you think about it.

It's time to make way

Sadly, this can't really go on forever. While it will undoubtedly continue to sell phenomenally well, the gaming world may be starting to move on after a long month of Pokemon-with-guns. There's a point where everyone's bought it, played it, and take a break (https://www.destructoid.com/palworlds-community-manager-says-its-fine-to-take-breaks-amid-negative-player-count-discourse/) while waiting for the next update.

At the time of writing, Palworld is number 20 on Steam's Top Sellers (https://store.steampowered.com/charts/topselling/GB) list. This represents a pretty hefty fall of 15 places. SteamDB (https://twitter.com/SteamDB/status/1759865483321298953) had it down as being third on the list as of February 20. I don't recall it being that high a few days ago, but I distinctly remember it being at least in the top eight about a week ago.

In any case, this is just an inevitability. With the likes of Helldivers 2 being at the number one spot (even knocking the Steam Deck down) and new releases such as Nightingale and the upcoming launch of the Elden Ring DLC, Palworld will continue to drop. Well, until the full release. Probably.
