Looking for something to scratch that retro role-playing game itch, but don't want to purchase a brand-new game? Well, if you'd rather make your own, you can always check out the expansive list of RPG Maker toolkits, which are currently on sale.

Beginning yesterday, the RPG Maker Festival 2024 (https://store.steampowered.com/curator/39252092/sale/RPGMaker2024?tab=1) goes on for the rest of this week, boasting a load of software that's got some pretty hefty discounts on Steam at the moment.

You can get VX, VX Ace, as well as Makers 2000 and 2003 for a whopping 90% off. If you don't mind going back nearly 20 years, you may be interested to learn that XP (https://store.steampowered.com/app/235900/RPG_Maker_XP/) is completely free for the duration of the event.

A recent post on Steam (https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/220700/view/4041486737479870055?l=english) is celebrating the festival, which goes on until February 19. Not only are the toolkits themselves on sale, but some of the top releases made in RPG Maker are also included, such as To The Moon and the indie horror hit Ib.

I'll make my own RPG! With blackjack and [redacted]

If you've never tried one of these out before, and you're interested in making your own games, they're definitely worth checking out. There's absolutely a ton of these stretching all the way back to 1992 (thanks, Wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RPG_Maker)!)

As the name suggests, each one allows you to create your own RPG, with an emphasis on a more classic Final Fantasy look. I've owned a copy of VX Ace (https://store.steampowered.com/app/220700/RPG_Maker_VX_Ace/) for several years now and have attempted my own in the past.

Never actually managed to actually finish a game, mind. Projects often join the ranks of the incomplete novels that have littered many a hard drive over the years. Ah, procrastination. Thy name is Andrew.
