As previously reported (https://www.destructoid.com/sony-accidentally-releases-ultrawings-2-vr-to-the-surprise-of-even-the-devs/), Ultrawings 2 found itself on PlayStation's store before the developers knew it would show up.

This is not a good position, as it cuts down on marketing time. Despite this, the game has been performing well with the public (https://old.reddit.com/r/PSVR/comments/1abwmjv/ultrawings_2_on_psvr2_first_impressions/). While it doesn't have the best visuals, it doesn't try to. Instead, it seeks to impress with its sometimes stomach-dropping sense of flight.

A maverick mystery

Ultrawings 2's developer, Bit Planet Games is careful to highlight that the event hasn't been confirmed to be Sony's fault just yet. On Twitter, the studio states the following: "we want to stress that we don't know what happened. It might have been something we did or didn't do properly. We simply don't know!"

For obvious reasons, the day-one patch can't make it out when initially planned so you'll have to briefly wait for the "day one-ish" patch. Even without the patch, for $20, the game offers 6 planes, over 300 missions to earn a gold medal in, a full campaign, as well as DualSense and HOTAS support.

It might be quite the serendipitous event that the surprise launch occurred, as it brought more attention to the game than it might have initially received. If you want to take to the skies on the VR2, Ultrawings 2 isn't the worst way to do it.
