While there's a wealth of boomer shooters on Steam at this time?Cultic (https://www.destructoid.com/reviews/review-cultic-pc-fps-retro-lo-fi/) to Boltgun (https://www.destructoid.com/reviews/review-warhammer-40000-boltgun/), just to mention a few?Ultrakill is still in a category all of its own. This infamy has been underlined further still with Patch 14, which features Layer 7 of Hell itself.

Ultrakill is set in a post-apocalypse where human blood is the only currency that matters anymore, as it fuels the few robots that remain. Given this premise, it's to be expected that the game's narrative and level design would take some weird turns, but the seventh layer of Hell is particularly noteworthy. Featuring remarkably agile, powerful, and aggressive angelic statues as the first encounter of the new Act, Ultrakill's Patch 14 (https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/1229490/view/3871471412481558046) is a sight to behold.

Ultrakill's Violent Night update introduces a strange and abstract Layer 7 of Hell

As Ultrakill is still in Early Access, each and every one of its major patches also comes with substantial new chunks of content. The aptly titled VIOLENT NIGHT Patch 14, for example, introduces a whole new Act with Layer 7 of Hell featured within. This means that any players who might've temporarily dropped Ultrakill to wait until more content is released should now have plenty of stuff to do. Exploring Layer 7 is a heck of an experience from the get-go, and according (https://old.reddit.com/r/Ultrakill/comments/18n16vu/violence_megathread/kebk44m/) to players (https://old.reddit.com/r/Ultrakill/comments/18n16vu/violence_megathread/kec7me4/), Ultrakill's Level 7 does not let up (https://old.reddit.com/r/Ultrakill/comments/18n16vu/violence_megathread/kea50xy/) at any point.

The goodness doesn't stop at the content, however. Patch 14 also includes a wealth of upgrades and improvements, with some of the highlights being:

The ability to bind multiple keys to a single action.

Quicksave availability in Sandbox mode.

Quality-of-life improvements for Punch and Parry moves (more leniency in execution)

Wall diving now allows players to continue wall-jumping while maintaining momentum.

Ultrakill's Patch 14 is an extremely promising showing that underscores some of the game's most important and widely acclaimed features. A heck of a way to wrap up another year's worth of active development, that's for sure.
