Since its launch, Baldur's Gate 3 (https://www.destructoid.com/reviews/review-baldurs-gate-3/) has been celebrated, though some players have been complaining about bugs and poor performance. Larian recently explained why this is happening and what the plans to fix it are.

Many players have been experiencing reduced framerates in Acts 2 and 3 of the game. According to a Larian developer (https://forums.larian.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=925192#Post925192), this has partially been caused by Patch 4 which ironically was released to fix bugs. It was meant to "prevent the Scrying Eyes in Moonrise Towers from immediately calling the guards on you when stealing, even if you were sneaking, or invisible."

It achieved this, but a side-effect is that it kept the game continually storing your past acts of vandalism, violence, and theft well past the point when it's necessary. As the developer explains in layman's terms, "your ?DM? - in a real-world sense - constantly thinks about the acts of theft & violence the player keeps doing." This bogs down the game, eventually affecting performance.

Now that developers are aware of what is causing the problem, there are plans to have it mended in Patch 5 scheduled for this week. Though frustrating, the occurrence of the bug is somewhat hilarious, as it seems to punish those who are the most mischievous.

Larian is still hard at work on Baldur's Gate 3, and a physical release is scheduled for early 2023. The team may enjoy the fruits of their labor soon, as the game has snatched the most number of nominations at this year's The Game Awards (https://www.destructoid.com/players-voice-voting-opens-for-the-game-awards-2023/), tying with Alan Wake 2.
