It's taken a bit of time, but it would appear that Dying Light 2 (https://www.destructoid.com/reviews/review-dying-light-2-stay-human-ps5-version/)'s post-apocalyptic community of survivors has finally discovered a tucked-away trove of firearms, against all odds. It was revealed early on that the world of Dying Light 2 wasn't going to include guns (https://www.destructoid.com/dying-light-2s-lead-game-designer-answers-some-community-questions-including-the-lack-of-firearms/) as such, with the sole exception to this rule being the meagre scrap blunderbuss. At the time, this was a lore-based decision, with the developer Techland choosing instead to focus on the game's melee combat. Yet, an upcoming content update throws this entire explanation into the bin.

Over the next few months, Techland will introduce a surprisingly comprehensive selection of all-new gear and content into Dying Light 2. While the shown-off shotguns and pistols are plenty exciting on their own, players can also expect new missions, features, and crossovers to boot. For example, it's now possible to repair used-up melee weapons, which alone will be a huge surprise to many players.

Dying Light 2's guns are just the start

Those who have been keeping track of Dying Light 2's post-launch development may find it curious that Techland would announce such a huge list of features and content right now. After all, Dying Light 2's review score tanked (https://www.destructoid.com/dying-light-2s-review-score-is-tanking-after-recent-update/) following the introduction of microtransactions.

The good news, for the time being, is that all players have much to look forward to in Dying Light 2 in the near and far future.

Free Dying Light 2 Content Roadmap

While Techland hasn't been shy about supporting its games long after they first came out, Dying Light 2's new free content roadmap certainly came out of the left field. To summarize all the important bits, players can expect the following features and content:

New Co-Op missions, board quests, and replayable GRE anomalies

Weapon repairing

New enemy variants

Knife weapon category

Polearm weapon category

Free outfits

Firearms

Text Chat

Gear and Mod dismantling

All-new weapon rarity

Nightmare difficulty mode

Finisher moves

Explosive throwing weapons (knives, stars, etc.)

Bloom toggle option

Community mod support

Further, there's a separate list of events and crossovers coming to Dying Light 2 as well:

Vampire: The Masquerade crossover event - October 2023

Halloween event - November 2023

For Honor crossover event - December 2023

Winter celebrations - December 2023

2nd anniversary event - February 2023

All of the above will be coming into the game over the course of the coming months. Players shouldn't expect a single huge content update, then, but a trickle of smaller releases instead, with special crossovers and whatnot peppered throughout the rest of 2023. It's a promising showcase, but only if Techland sticks to its schedule.

As for the microtransactions, those are almost certainly here to stay, although it is likely that they'll be revised in some way, shape, or form, according to Techland itself (https://twitter.com/DyingLightGame/status/1700185250448429458?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5 Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1700185250448429458%7Ctwgr% 5Ea21dc6ef8de0162a1d47117f81bcef4aaf3355d7%7Ctwcon %5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.playstationlifestyle.net %2F2023%2F09%2F08%2Fdying-light-2-microtransaction-outrage-sparks-response-from-techland%2F).
