Drip marketing for Genshin Impact (https://www.destructoid.com/tag/genshin-impact/) Version 4.2 is here, and the new playable characters are confirmed to be Furina and Charlotte. Announcements were made via HoYoverse?s social media channels showing off the new character art and teasing some new details.
We?ve seen both of these girls before. Furina is the Hydro Archon and she?s played a prominent role in the Archon Quests so far. Charlotte made her debut as an NPC back in Version 3.7. With this announcement though, they are both confirmed to be joining the playable roster soon.
What do we know about Furina and Charlotte?
Furina is a charismatic drama queen. She?s the ruler of Fontaine and her people adore her. Despite her popularity though, the flavor text included with her announcement (https://www.hoyolab.com/article/21858342) hints that she might actually be a bit lonely. She is shown holding a fancy rapier or cane with Hydro elements around it, possibly hinting at her weapon.
Furina?s Constellation is Animula Choragi, which could mean a couple of things. ?Animula (https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/animula)? is a diminutive form of Latin ?anima,? meaning spirit or soul, so this could be translated as ?little soul.? Choragi (https://www.collinsdictionary.com/us/dictionary/english/choragi) were the patrons of Greek drama, but a singular choragus could also refer to the leader of the choir. Either way, it?s interesting that HoYo picked the plural form of the word.
Charlotte is a reporter for the Steambird. She?s confirmed to be Cryo with a Pneuma alignment. We didn?t learn too much new information about her other than her Constellation: Hualina Veritas. This one?s easier to translate than Furina?s; it just means ?transparent truth.? Fitting for a reporter!

It?s also a little suspicious that the background of Furina?s portrait image (https://twitter.com/GenshinImpact/status/1706247402506920119) is lacking a Fontaine Vision. There is usually a Vision shape at the top of the background elements for character announcements, and you can see one in Charlotte?s background (https://twitter.com/GenshinImpact/status/1706248551075041753). Archons aren?t exempt from this either; Nahida (https://twitter.com/GenshinImpact/status/1574341914215718913) and Raiden?s (https://twitter.com/GenshinImpact/status/1418150970798731264) art include their nation?s Vision shape. I can?t imagine this is an accident, so maybe HoYoverse is trying to hide Furina?s Arkhe alignment for whatever reason.
Other than their element, gameplay details are unknown at this time. It looks like Furina might use a Sword, but Charlotte?s weapon is unspecified. We?ll have to wait for the 4.2 Special Program to find out how they play.
When are Furina and Charlotte coming to Genshin Impact?
Furina and Charlotte are coming in Genshin Impact Version 4.2, which if the schedule holds, should be coming on November 7. You?ll have all of 4.1 to save Primogems, assuming you don?t spend it all on the 4.1 characters (https://www.destructoid.com/genshin-impact-current-and-upcoming-banners/)!
