In a recent tweet (https://twitter.com/EvilDeadTheGame/status/1704239249761906859), Saber Interactive revealed the company made the decision not to pursue the development of new content for Evil Dead: The Game (https://www.destructoid.com/reviews/evil-dead-the-game-review-playstation-pc-xbox-bruce-campbell-horror-groovy/). The tweet also confirmed the previously in-progress Nintendo Switch version will no longer be released.

Despite the unfortunate news, Saber Interactive is going to keep the existing servers for the game up "for the foreseeable future" and will address any major issues that may hit the existing platforms.

"To the Evil Dead: The Game community,

Today, we have made the decision not to pursue the development of new content for Evil Dead: The Game. We also confirm that we will not be releasing a Nintendo Switch version of the game.

We will keep the servers up for hte foreseeable future and address any major issues that arise.

On behalf of the entire team at Saber, thank you for all the groovy times and your continued support."

Evil Dead: The Dead Game

It's always disappointing to see support for a multiplayer title end, but it's not exactly shocking in this case. Even though it doesn't represent the entire player base, recent numbers for Evil Dead: The Game on Steam Charts (https://steamdb.info/app/1493750/charts/) may reveal why this decision was made. At the time this post was made only three players were In-Game via Steam, with a 24-hour peak of 30. Even the all-time peak from five months ago of 586 is hardly considered a lot of players.

For me personally, I just never got around to giving it a try. I remember it being revealed during The Game Awards back in 2020 (https://www.destructoid.com/hell-yeah-i-want-evil-dead-the-game/), and wanting to check it out. But once it came out I was busy with other titles, and just never got around to jumping in. Also, the fact that it was originally an Epic exclusive probably didn't help. Even though I hate the Epic vs. Steam exclusive war, I don't mind booting up one or the other to play a specific game. I don't love it, but I don't mind it either. But, for some, I know that can be a dealbreaker. It's hard to say if this actually had an effect on its success, but I'm willing to bet it didn't help.

Those who want to still check it out can play Evil Dead: The Game on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
