In an interview with Famitsu (https://www.famitsu.com/news/202309/06314767.html), Nintendo Producer Eiji Aonuma, and Director Hidemaro Fujibayashi confirmed that The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (https://www.destructoid.com/reviews/review-the-legend-of-zelda-tears-of-the-kingdom/) will not be receiving any new content or DLC. Genki_JPN (https://twitter.com/Genki_JPN) on Twitter translated the interview:
"We have no plans to release additional content this time, but that is because we feel like we have done all we can do to create play in that world," Aonuma told Famitsu. "This time, the reason we decided to make a sequel to the previous game in the first place was because we thought it would be worth experiencing new ways to play in Hyrule. If such reasons arise then we may return to the same world. Whether it is a sequel or new work, I think it will be a completely new way to play, so I hope you will look forward to it. We are very grateful that so many customers have been playing Tears of the Kingdom for so long and deeply, so we will to do our best to make the next title even more enjoyable."
Honestly, it's no surprise that Nintendo feels Tears of the Kingdom is essentially finished. After all, our very own Chris Carter gave the sequel a 10/10 (https://www.destructoid.com/reviews/review-the-legend-of-zelda-tears-of-the-kingdom/) when it was released on May 12, 2023. In comparison, Breath of the Wild (https://www.destructoid.com/reviews/review-the-legend-of-zelda-breath-of-the-wild/) only received one expansion pass that included three DLC packs (https://www.destructoid.com/newly-announced-zelda-breath-of-the-wild-dlc-and-expansion-pass-includes-a-new-dungeon/#:~:text=You%20can%20get%20all%20three,Nintendo%20 Switch%20logo%20on%20it.). While the DLC packs were good (https://www.destructoid.com/reviews/review-the-legend-of-zelda-breath-of-the-wild-the-master-trials/), they weren't quite on par with BotW itself.
Zelda fans have reason to rejoice, though. Based on the interview, it seems like Nintendo is opting to jump right into the next Zelda title. Maybe going this route we won't have to wait five years for the next one! With the Switch successor reportedly planned for 2024 (https://www.destructoid.com/nintendo-switch-successor-reportedly-planned-for-2024/), the time may be better spent working wit the new dev kits.
