Joel & Ellie back in brick-tossing actionDeveloper Naughty Dog has released an extended gameplay trailer for its incoming remake The Last of Us Part I, showing off the gruesome survival horror action that is headed to PS5 consoles this September. The new showcase includes gameplay footage, cinematic spotlights, and the new title's brilliant accessibility options, including audio-descriptive commentary.

The presentation comes just one day after short gameplay clips were leaked to the internet (https://www.destructoid.com/the-last-of-us-part-i-leaked-gameplay-video-footage-naughty-dog/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=the-last-of-us-part-i-leaked-gameplay-video-footage-naughty-dog) by XboxEra co-founder Nick Baker. Naughty Dog vice president Arne Meyer addressed the recent leaks earlier this morning. "Leaks really suck." tweets Meyer. (https://twitter.com/arnemeyer/status/1550271717842763776?s=20&t=t2oLecbYVyctGvJTtDB8GQ) "Esp when we're right on the cusp of an asset drop. It's disheartening and frustrating to teams who have put their hearts making awesome things for our fans."
As I noted just yesterday, The Last of Us is one of the leakiest franchises in gaming, with the official reveal of The Last of Us Part I "spoiled" mere minutes before its announcement at the Summer Game Fest presentation (https://www.destructoid.com/the-last-of-us-remake-is-coming-to-ps5-this-year-pc-in-development/). Additionally, The Last of Us Part II had major story spoilers circulating the internet months before its 2020 release. While I absolutely agree with Meyer's comments from an artistic standpoint ? who wants to show off their painting, book, or song before it is completed? ? these spoilers have near to zero impact on a commercial level.

The Last of Us, The Last of Us Part II, and, most assuredly, The Last of Us Part I, all did/will do gangbusters numbers, while also cleaning up in end-of-year awards/noms. Leaks are undeniably frustrating for creators, especially when they drop at the final hour of an official showcase release or live stream reveal. But, in regard to its global impact, TLOU PtI is going to be one of the biggest games of the year, there's no doubt about it. Success ? in all measurable factors ? will arrive regardless of any and all spoiled moments.
The Last of Us Part I will perform. And the development team's tireless, talented, and passionate work will be experienced by millions of players worldwide, despite six minutes' worth of previously leaked in-game footage. If anything is potentially harmful to this impressive remake's success, it's the price tag. Look to publishers for that precedent, not leakers.
Regardless, the remake looks fantastic. An unmistakably passionate demonstration of the Naughty Dog team's in-house talent. The Last of Us Part I launches on PS5 September 2.
